Latin Club News

Cornerstone JCL had an impressive showing at the 61st Annual State Latin Forum of the Junior Classical League in Orlando, during April 15th -17th. Nearly 50 schools from around the state were in attendance for the festivities, tests, project judging, and Olympic events. This was our third year to attend State, and our students performed very well—it appears, in fact, that this year was our best showing yet! We received numerous club awards as well. Many of our student contributed to our performance in these events:

Finally, the club received trophies in four sweepstakes categories:

  • 1st Place Overall in Ludi (Games)
  • 4th Place Overall in Academic
  • 1st Place Overall in Creative
  • 4th Place Overall in Junior Division (all categories)

A special thank-you to our parent chaperones, who served as judges and chauffeurs over the weekend: Jim Brewster, Dawn Larson, Lee-Anne Lawson, Debra Liuzzo, Steve Maule, and Teresa Shaw. Your help was invaluable to our students and especially to Mrs. Reed. Thanks also to Cade Rakes-Chick, our JCL club president, for his outstanding leadership during our trip and for his hard work for the club this year.

A Great Showing by Cornerstone Latin Club at Regionals

On Saturday, January 30th, twenty-eight Cornerstone JCL Latin Students attended the Florida Junior Classical League Region IV Forum at Oak Hall School in Gainesville. Five schools from around north-central Florida (including St. Francis, Ocala Forest, and Leesburg High) competed in various academic, creative, olympic and certamen events.

Our students presented their Latin projects that they made for school and everyone did a great job in their events. Cornerstone students received 33 individual academic and creative awards, plus numerous placements in Olympika.  Congratulations to all our students who attended and contributed to Cornerstone's performance at Regionals!

Congratulations to our Varsity Soccer and Varsity Volleyball players, as well as to our JV Volleyball Team. They all did outstanding in the NACA Tournament, held in Tennessee earlier this month. GO COUGARS!!!
