Memory Time

Memory time is a very productive 30 minutes for students in 1st through 4th grades and occurs each school morning from 8:00 to 8:30 AM. Students in the Grammar stage of development love to chant, recite and sing. If they are not provided with material to memorize and repeat, they will create their own. Have you ever listened to children as they jump rope? “Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack…”

Memory Time is an opportunity for students to sing and recite history songs which are timelines of events that integrate Biblical history with other important dates from world history. Each grade is studying a different time period and will take their turn singing. The net effect, however, is that all the students become proficient in all the history songs by the end of the year. In addition, English grammar is recited and other jingles and songs are sung. Poems may be recited. The students enjoy this time and do not realize the large volume of knowledge they are acquiring quite “painlessly.”
